The Riverside Roar – September 13, 2021

Download The Riverside Roar for the week of September 13, 2021 (PDF) »

Dear Riverside Families,

Due to a national shortage of school bus drivers, school bus service has been severely delayed. In Cincinnati, this issue is affecting both public and public charter schools, as Cincinnati Public Schools is seeking to fill a number of open positions. Currently, our yellow bus service is through Universal Transportation System (UTS). To speak to Cincinnati Public Schools Transportation Customer Service, call 513-363-7433, option #1 for vendor, and option #6 for UTS.

While we wait for additional students to receive bus routes, the parent pickup line with remain long. To alleviate the situation, we are beginning dismissal to parents at 3:15 P.M. instead of 3:25 P.M. We are doing our best to facilitate this at quickly and as safely as possible. Beginning on September 7, 2021, there will be cones blocking the driveway on the west side of the building. All cars will need to exit by driving through the parking lot, turning left on the alleyway, and then onto River Road.

Thank you for your help and continued patience!

Sincerely,
Ms. Elizabeth Lucas
Principal

Teacher Updates

Mrs. Kelsey Carter – Kindergarten
kcarter@acariverside.com

This week we continued learning to write narratives. We learned to add to our writing and how to work with partners. We continued learning numbers. We have started the foundations for addition and subtraction! We learned our first math sentence: 1 and 2 makes 3. We continued with story elements. We covered letters u and i. We finished our senses unit and will begin a new science unit next week! Have a lovely weekend!

Mr. Robert Fahrmeier – 1st Grade
rfahrmeier@acariverside.com

Mrs. Amoy Weschelman – 2nd Grade
aweschelman@acariverside.com

This week in 2nd grade we started working on blends and digraphs in language arts. We also worked on differentiating vowels and consonants in language arts. In science, we learned about different ways to sort animals, such as which ones are vertebrates and invertebrates. In math we used manipulatives to build number bonds and to help visualize adding and subtracting up to twenty. During writing time, we have been working on writing more sentences at a time and of increasing complexity.

Mrs. Wendy Apperson – 3rd Grade
wapperson@acariverside.com

Mr. David Ladner – 4th Grade
dladner@acariverside.com

The number of scholars and explorers that are part of Ladner’s Landers has increased. The mission has changed, and the class is no longer a self-contained 4th grade, but it is now Math and Science for both 4th and 5th grade scholars.  Ms. Hebert and I are co-teaching.  She teaches Language Arts and Social Studies to both grades.  This has been a week of transition as both 4th and 5th grade scholars have had to learn expectations within their new classes, while continuing to become reaccustomed to in-person learning for all.  Our scholars are improving more and more each day as they continue to land in many new unexplored areas of learning!  Many great missions lie ahead!

In last week’s Riverside Roar I mentioned that knowing what standard your student is working on is a great place to start if you are trying to provide extra help at home. In the next couple of Riverside Roars I’m going to let you know of a few websites that are free, and easy to navigate for finding work associated with direct standard topics.

The first we’ll review is ereadingworksheets.com. It is one of the most direct to use. Simply type the standard number (ex. R.I.7.2) into the search box. Next, pay attention to site names and try to stick with the sites that include “ereading worksheets” and you’ll be set to go.

This week the seventh graders will be introduced to standard R.I.7.3 which focuses on relationships within the text and analogies. The eighth grade will be introduced to R.I.8.1 with finding evidence that aggress with and supports statements made.

Good Afternoon Lions,

Man have we been busy in math.  We took our first iReady assessment and also our first Short Cycle Assessment.  Also 8th grade took their first Mid-Module Assessment.  Wow guys!  We have been working hard and have lots to do.  6th grade is continuing to work on Ratios.  We are applying them in real world problems with various methods.  7th grade is getting ready for their first Mid-Module assessment which will be next Wednesday.  Make sure that you are keeping up with your work.  8th grade we are continuing with exponents and applying them.  We will apply them with Scientific Method next week.

We are eager to see where students are performing and work towards their growth and goals this year. This data should be shared with you by their classroom teacher. As always, if you have specific questions or concerns for your child’s IS do not hesitate to reach out to us!

A big thank you to all our teachers and staff for supporting our first “Riverside Grind”.  Our next date is September 30th!

We have had a few requests for a variety of “juices”. If you have a favorite drink or treat that you would like to see offered…please let me know!
